The Kravica waterfall is a pearl of the Herzegovinian landscape, located on the Trebizat River, 7 km away from Ljubuski. It is a unique natural beauty built by the Trebizat River flowing through limestone terrains and depositing tufa.
Kravica nature park is a popular tourist destination thanks to the amazing waterfall that’s over 25 meters high. The Kravica waterfall is said to have originated millions of years ago. Kravica waterfalls is one of the largest waterfalls in Bosnia and Herzegovina and it’s definitely worth a visit. The waterfall was formed as a result of tectonic movement and the upheaval of the limestone plateau on which Trebizat, the river that feeds the waterfalls, flows. The best time to visit Kravica is during the summer when the water level is high and the weather is warm.
What to expect when you arrive at Kravica Nature Park?
The Kravica Nature Park is open every day from 7 am to 10 pm in the summer months and from 7 am to 7 pm in the winter months. The park offers visitors a range of facilities, including parking, train, toilets, changing rooms, restaurants, and more. Swimming and sunbathing are also popular activities here, as well as renting a boat. There are also souvenir shops on site for those looking to take home a little piece of Kravica.
The admission fee is 20.00 KM. When you arrive at the National park, there’s a large parking lot where you can leave your car and this is where you will be dropped off if you come with a tour group. The park is well-marked with signs, so it’s easy to find your way around. The car park is elevated and it is positioned on a plateau some 50-100 meters above the base of the waterfall. After you purchase the ticket you can proceed to find your way to the base of the waterfall.
There are several walking trails that lead to the waterfall, so you can choose the path that’s best for you. The trails range in difficulty, so there’s something for everyone. All trails lead to viewing platforms where you can take in the beauty of the waterfall before you actually get close to it. The trails are also very well maintained, so you don’t have to worry about getting lost or injuring yourself. One thing to have in mind is that the last part of one of the trails, literally the last 10 meters is a bit steep and can be very slippery especially if you are wearing worn-out shoes so make sure you hold the handrail firmly.
When you get down to the base of the Waterfall, you will be mesmerized by the view. You will see a lake which is created in a depression at the base of the waterfall and on one side of the lake you will find 2 restaurants, changing rooms and a bit further away toilet facilities. There will be a wooden bridge that will take you to the other side of Kravica lake where the waterfall cascades down into the lake.
