There are 3 essential characteristics of Ston oysters: it refreshes, calms and encourages love. They are well known best natural aphrodisiac. Aphrodite, the goddess of love, beauty and lust, was born, as artists see it, in a shell. And if you ask the people of Mali Ston, they have no doubt that the shell was an oyster. Ostrea edulis – specie of oysters grown only in Mali Ston bay are specific for their taste and very sensitive to grow. They react to any kind of sea pollution and that is why they are a confirmation that the sea is extremely clean. History of Neum
Since ancient times, the area of Neum has been known as a significant crossroad that led from the coast to the hinterland. Neum was first mentioned in the 4th century, in 533, under the name “Neuense”. Until 1718, Neum was part of the Republic of Dubrovnik, when it was handed over to the Turks for the needs of ships and the supply of military units in the hinterland. In 1878, Neum and the rest of Bosnia and Herzegovina became part of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, until the end of the First World War in 1918. In the second half of the last century, the first resorts, hotels and other tourist facilities emerged.
