The Old Town of Trebinje, built in the early 18th century under Osman Pasha, was strategically organized along the Trebišnjica River. Key landmarks include Sultan Ahmed and Osman-Pasha mosques, and the Sahat-kula (clock tower). Originally triangular, the fortress evolved into its final rounded shape with towers, canals, and ramparts.
After exploring the Old Town, the tour continues with a visit to Vukoje Wine Cellar 1982, located within walking distance.
If you are seeking a more exclusive experience with the highest quality wines, food, and exemplary service with a breathtaking view of Trebinje, visit the Vukoje Wine Gallery. Vukoje may have a shorter history than some of local vineyards, but their limited production of premium wines and alcoholic beverages dating from 1982 is unparalleled. The winery employs modern technologies, a controlled process of fermentation, and traditional aging methods in the oak barrique barrels stored in cellars located 8 meters underground. Along with many individual awards for their range of wines,
Vukoje was awarded the title of the best winery in Southeast Europe. Don’t miss the stunning bar and restaurant perched on the sixth and seventh floors of the winery, accommodating up to 300 guests. The location includes expansive views of the town and vineyards that can be enjoyed from both open-air terraces and picture windows. Vukoje also offers visits to the vineyards at the newly built facility at the entrance to Trebinje.
After departing from Trebinje, we will reach the Tvrdoš Monastery where our first stop is. Orthodox monastery of Tvrdos from 15ct is place where monks have been producing wine for centuries until they blew up the monastery when it was about to be taken over by the Ottomans in 18ct. We will visit their ancient cellars and taste some of their best white and red wine. Your guide will explain about the wine and the current hard working monk life-style.
After tasting monk’s wine, we start by driving up to the top of Gracanica hill above Trebinje for great panoramic views of the city so that your guide can explain the geography of the area and show you all the spots that you will visit during the tour. A visit the Ortodox Church of Blessings (Hercegovačka Gračanica) standing at the top of the hill is also possible.
Home to the dramatic Neretva Canyon, the Adriatic coastline and the mighty Dinaric Alps, Herzegovina offers an impressive variety of landscapes and vibrant historic towns waiting to be explored. Don’t miss cultural treasures such as the Old Bridge in Mostar, the medieval village of Počitelj and the Kravica waterfalls. The mild Mediterranean climate makes this region perfect for year-round cycling.
